Gill Sans Serif - described by Jan Tschichold as "the most beautiful version of all contemporary sans-serifs." Created by Eric Gill in 1928.

Verdana - Designed in 1994 by Mathew Carter. Verdana along with it's serifed counterpart Georgia were designed for optimal on-screen readability; these two fonts have become de-facto standards for type conscious web developers.
